La cuenca del río Grande de Xuvia se extiende a
lo largo de
Donde termina la ría de Ferrol, en Xuvia, zona de desembocadura también de los ríos Belelle, Freixeiro y Pereiro, comienza el limite
de cuenca del río Grande de Xuvia, en dirección al
Norte hasta llegar a la frontera de los concellos de Narón y Valdoviño. Luego, la
divisoria septentrional toma rumbo al
Este, pasando por el Monte dos Nenos, Pena Blanca, Calvelo, Pena da Cabra para llegar al Cadabal.
El limite de cuenca cambia de trayectoria para dirigirse
hacia el Sureste sirviendo de interfluvio con la cuenca del río Mera y el
regacho de Ferrerías. Después de pasar por la Vilavesa,
el borde de la cuenca llega hasta la Pena dos Ladróns,
donde se produce otro cambio de rumbo, esta vez hacia el Suroeste, que coincide
con el comienzo del interfluvio de la cuenca del río Eume.
Desde el pico Naveira,
el borde meridional de la cuenca del río Grande de Xuvia
coge la dirección Este-Oeste siguiendo por la sierra de Forgoselo
señalando el interfluvio con la cuenca del río Belelle,
a partir de las Penas Louseiras sigue hacia Noroeste,
hasta llegar de nuevo al fondo de la ría de Ferrol encerrando así una extensión
superficial de
El río Grande de Xuvia tiene su nacimiento cerca
de Tafornelos en el concello
de Somozas a unos 460 mts. de altitud. Cerca de Machuconovo
recibe el regacho de la Toca, a partir de esa confluencia se dirige meandrizando hacia el Norte, bordeando los Montes dos Cobos
hasta que se produce la afluencia del río de las Ferrerías que aporta al
sistema principal las aguas recogidas en las Enchousas,
Seixas y Somozas.
Entrando en el concello
de Moeche recibe las aguas del regacho de Moeche y del río Pequeño, a medio camino entre San Sadurniño y Xuvia se le incorpora
por la izquierda el más importante de los afluentes, el río Castro, que junto
con el subafluente Cando recogen las aguas de la vertiente septentrional de la
sierra de Forgoselo. Después de rodear el coto de Ancos el río Grande desemboca en Xuvia.
